"Help! I'm An Ezine Junkie!"
By Peg Bastin

At last count I subscribed to 73 ezines and every day one
or two more appeared in my e-mail box. After all, I'm
hearing and reading everywhere how ezine advertising will
increase traffic to my website resulting in more sales, and
that's the bottom line right?

What I didn't realize until recently was that almost all my
time was being consumed by reading these ezines. I read
them because I'm nosy, and I'm afraid I'll miss something!
I spend two to three hours daily reading, printing out
articles I find helpful, highlighting, organizing and
filing the articles that I might get a chance to use
someday. Everyday - the same thing - read, print,
highlight, organize, file...

Then one day it dawned on me that I wasn't getting much
accomplished because I wasn't focusing on what needed to be
done. I was saving articles on anything that might be of
use to me someday in building a website, writing articles
and ads, marketing, building traffic, etc.

I can see now how too much information can be overwhelming.
I couldn't decide what to do or learn first. I was working
on too many things at one time and not getting much
accomplished. I needed a plan to follow!

One, I had to stop analyzing, organizing, and categorizing.
I'm trying to decide which ezines are the best suited to my
needs at this time. The best of the best for marketing and
traffic building tips.

Two, I will unsubscribe from the others for a while. I can
re-subscribe later when my needs change. Of course, there
are several I just "have to keep!" I've made friends with
the editors and the advice they've given me has been very
helpful.

Three, I must start DOING instead of reading. I'm making a
list of the things I need to do to get the traffic to my
website. Learn to write better ads, jazz up my headlines,
write more articles, and even a press release. Then I will
make a list of targeted sources where I can submit my ads
and articles.

I already feel more in control of my life. Focusing on a
step-by-step plan to market my website is my major goal at
this time. More DOING and less READING!
