"Why Do You Buy Coop Ad Services?"
By Peg Bastin
Coop ad services are everywhere these days. You may have
used them yourself. You might be a new publisher looking
for new subscribers or a new marketer wanting more exposure
for your business.
The basic idea of these coop services is to provide
inexpensive ad exposure for marketers. Publishers join
these groups to gain new readers for their ezines.
Why do you buy coop ads?
Most of these ezines already allow their subscribers to
post free ads. Of course, this means that you have to
submit your own ad to each ezine yourself. You can have
someone else do the work for you for a small price! It will
certainly save you a lot of time.
Are you choosing groups that might have ezines you would
enjoy reading and learning from - or just selecting the
ones with the largest amount of subscribers that will see
your ad?
Owners of the coop services place your order and ad with
the publishers of the group(s) you've chosen. The editor
receives a new subscriber and agrees to publish your ad.
Do you realize how much work these ads are for the
publishers who participate? They subscribe, confirm, and
welcome you to their ezine. They reformat a lot of these
ads to make them fit the allotted space.
There are times when a subscriber will unsubscribe before
the ad is run. This means that the publisher must now
remove the ad because the rules say you must be a
subscriber to have your ad published.
Did you ever read the issue to see if there was anything in
it that was useful to you? No? Why not? You may have just
passed up a great advertising option.
What about the free junk email accounts or autoresponder
addresses that some folks use - with your full page ad in
it. Do you think the publisher will be interested in
reading it? Not likely. What a colossal waste of their time
and YOUR money!
Coop ad services can be great if used properly. The coop
owners make their money by placing your order and sending
your ad to the participating ezines. The price is very
reasonable for the subscriber, and the ads are placed for
you, saving you a lot of time.
New ezine publishers have the advantage of getting new
subscribers for their newsletters and hopefully gaining
loyal readers. Once they have a subscriber base of 1000 or
more, and are getting a large number of their own free ads,
some will opt-out of these services. They don't want a mass
of ads in their issues.
One disadvantage of these services is the publishers are
not getting targeted readers, and your ads are not being
seen by the people most interested in your product. They
want subscribers to see the value in their content, not
just for the 'ad assembly line.'
Also, I'm sure these subscribers didn't realize the first
time they purchased ads how many newsletters they would be
receiving! Some will even believe they've been spammed!
Now that you have a better understanding of this great
service, and all it can do for everyone involved, pick your
ezine groups carefully, and Let's Go Coop-ing!!
